Denise's oil paintings
My inspiration is my environment. The images may evoke an emotion, mood or movement through the manipulation of the line, colour, shape, expressive textural marks and tone.
My subject matter is varied because my inspiration is my environment. The watercolour is applied loosly to create colourful expressive images.
The subject matter is inspired by my environment. The oil pastel application in the colourful images is impasto and expressive.
Acrylic/mixed media paintings
Expressive markmaking and light create dynamic movement. This is very apparent in these Acrylic and mixed media paintings. Gardens and landscapes are my inspiration in these textural and colourful artworks.
July Open Studios
From an early age I enjoyed colour. School did not offer the opportunity to study art as a subject. I explored further in evening classes at the local Art college. My desire to study further saw me qualifying to teach art and art history in high schools. I exhibited extensively in South Africa, where I grew up. I have been teaching and exhibiting here in the, United Kingdom since 2000.
The current situation has given me the opportunity to totally immerse myself in my work. It is a personal, expressive response to the fleeting changes of light and colour. I am absorbed by the process, bringing the visual elements together in an image. When creating an artwork, I feel comfortable, I am happy.
Colour and expressive mark making facilitate my emotional response to the subject matter. The original representational inspiration remains visible in the image.
